substation hum — take 304:12
2025.02.28 / field recording / zoom h5
fieldambient
Recorded at the abandoned substation off Route 7. The hum you hear is entirely real — 60hz mains frequency bleeding through the transformer casings. I kept the wind noise in. Three takes; this one had the best low end. The clicking around the 2:30 mark is something I still can't identify.

recording session 04 — rough mix07:38
2025.02.28 / session / bmpcc + h5
studiosession
Rough mix from the February session. Recorded direct from the board, no post. The tape flutter around 3:00 is real — the machine is old and I like what it does to the high end. This will probably get mixed properly at some point. Maybe.

rain on corrugated steel02:55

January. Found an old barn with a corrugated roof during a downpour and just held the recorder up. No edits, no fade. The variation in pitch as the rain intensity changed is the whole point.

drone study no. 711:04
2024.11.03 / studio / four-track
ambientstudio
Single-take drone recorded direct to cassette, then re-recorded through a small speaker in a tiled bathroom. The reverb is the room, nothing else. I've been working on this series for about a year. This is the one I keep coming back to.

AM radio sweep — 530–170006:21
2024.09.17 / found sound / sony icf-sw7600
fieldfound
Slow manual sweep of the full AM band, late at night, recorded off the headphone jack. You get fragments of broadcasts, dead air, heterodyne interference, and at one point something that sounds like a numbers station but probably isn't. Unedited. Six minutes.
